The Richmond Hill Martin Luther King Jr. Observance Committee has announced its newly elected leadership team as it continues promoting unity, service, and community engagement.

President Talisha Thompson will lead the organization, joined by: • Johnnie Quiller – Vice President & Historian • Sharon Muhammad – Secretary • Sawaner Tucker – Treasurer • Angelica Chambers– Financial Secretary • Shirlonda Shepard – Public Relations Coordinator

• Clyde Shepard – Volunteer Coordinator • Diane McLeod – Parliamentarian Founded in 2018 as the MLK Parade Committee by Craig and Sharon Butts, the organization transitioned to a Unity Walk in 2025 by the previous administration under the leadership of Shirlonda Shepard and Elisha Boyd to encourage greater fellowship and community involvement.

Observance Committee proudly operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, allowing it to expand its impact through community partnerships, charitable initiatives, educational programs, and scholarship opportunities that support the vision and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

SAVE THE DATE: The next Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Walk is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, January 16, 2027, at JF Gregory Park in Richmond Hill.

The committee is also focused on strengthening community partnerships and expanding scholarship opportunities for local students.

The organization is also preparing for its 2026 Black Tie Gala on September 19, 2026, at the Wetlands Center. This elegant evening will serve as a celebration of community, leadership, and service. Guests can expect a memorable night of inspiration, fellowship, and excellence as the committee unveils its vision for the future and continues advancing Dr. King’s dream of unity and opportunity for all.
