FORT STEWART — As the facilities are improved around the Winn Army Community Hospital campus, the initial impact of these changes may cause some to take a few extra steps to reach their destination.
Of note first will be the parking constraints. Staff members already have been directed to other parking areas so that patients and visitors will have closer access to entrances.
As patients now enter by way of the Liberty wing, medical records and main entrances, signage soon will be in place to direct them to other points of entry. This is due to the renovations scheduled to take place with relocations of pharmacy, patient advocates and medical records.
However several improvements are nearly complete and soon will be ready for use.
First to be seen will be the newly built emergency room, which is expected to open in July, doubling the size of the existing one. The final ER parking area expands to 225 spaces for convenience and access.
Another opening will be that of the dining facility. Scheduled to open in late July, it also will be widely expanded to mirror that of a food-court concept with a larger dining area and outdoor seating. Included in the new façade will be made-to-order grill service, a deli station and a dessert island.
All projects are expected to be completed by the end of 2017.
