Fifty-one soldiers from the First Battalion, 169th Aviation Regiment, Georgia Army National Guard, will redeploy to Hunter Army Airfield this evening. The unit’s welcome home ceremony will be at 7 p.m. in a hanger on the airfield.
“Seventy-one members of this unit were mobilized last September and deployed to Afghanistan in October,” Hunter Army Airfield spokesperson Steve Hart said. “During their 11-month-long deployment, this unit flew more than 700 combat missions that included 3,000 accident-free combat hours. The unit’s six CH-47D Chinook helicopters transported 2,500 short tons of equipment and supplies throughout their battle space.”
