Richmond Hill City Council put its stamp of approval Tuesday on the hiring of Christy Sherman as head of the city’s Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.
The council voted unanimously to accept Sherman’s appointment to the CVB’s top job, replacing Chris Sheppard, whose husband is being transferred.
“(Sheppard) to our great sorrow is resigning and moving on to New Mexico,” said CVB board member Bonnie Proctor. “We tried to get her to stay, but you know how that goes.”
Sheppard has been lauded at recent meetings for her work publicizing the city. She was not at Tuesday’s meeting and neither was Sherman, most recently a park ranger at Fort McAllister who is also president of the Richmond Hill Historical Society.
Proctor said Sherman stood out among candidates to replace Sheppard.
“We had several good applicants and one that was an outstanding applicant,” she told the council, meaning Sherman.
“She’s probably one of the most passionate people in Richmond Hill about the city and our history, and we’re just delighted that she has accepted our proposal.”
