More pay for commissioners

Bryan County Commissioners will receive a pay increase beginning in January 2013 after a unanimous decision by the board Tuesday at its regularly scheduled meeting.
The board approved raising the annual salary to $8,500 per year for a district commissioner and $9,500 for the chairman. The pay increase is the first in more than 20 years, officials said.
A previous board of commissioners in 1989 approved an annual salary of around $1,500 for commissioners and around $3,000 for the chairman.
County Administrator Phil Jones said that pay remained the same until 2004 when Georgia state legislature started giving some cost of living increases, though they were small.
