Familes get fun, dinner with Kids Fishing Derby

t was the perfect weather Saturday for young anglers to catch some fish and have some family fun during the 23rd annual Kids Fishing Derby at the Richmond Hill Fish Hatchery.

"We had another great turnout … with more than 350 children participating, plus an equal number of parents, grandparents and other adults attending as well," said Lynn Bennett with the Richmond Hill Exchange Club, which sponsors the event each year.

Registration started at 8 a.m. and the fishing kicked off just 30 minutes later. The participants dropped their lines at three of the hatchery’s ponds that were stocked with catfish and bream. Even though many brought their own bait and rods, some were provided for those without.
