Last chance to attend or sponsor Rotary fundraiser

If you’ve been waiting to get a ticket to the Rotary’s annual ball and fundraiser, time is running out.

Kittie Franklin, executive director of the Chamber of Commerce, said she will have tickets available through Wednesday and sponsorship opportunities available through Tuesday.

The event is themed ‘Rhinestone Cowboy,’ and will be held Saturday, Feb. 23, at 6 p.m. in the Speir-Brogdon building.

Franklin said everyone in the community is encouraged to attend. Funds raised from the evening will go toward a number of scholarships, international organizations and community groups.

Attendees are asked to dress to match the western theme. Bolo or black tie is optional. Music will provided by The O’Kaysions and Bruce Ford of Outrigger’s is catering the food.

Sponsorship benefits include free tickets and extra chances to win the night’s grand prize. For more information, call Franklin at 756-3444.

Bryan County Commissioners on Tuesday night deferred a decision on whether to rezone some 3.8 acres near the historic Burnt Church Cemetery to allow a Parker’s Kitchen convenience store. The vote to defer the decision for 30 days to look into concerns raised by opponents to the project came after several residents – including parents of children buried in the 195-year-old cemetery – urged commissioners to deny the rezoning.
