The JROTC Wildcat Battalion from Richmond Hill High School hosted a car wash last Saturday at the old Bryan County Courthouse. The event lasted from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and was mostly done by volunteer cadets from the program.
The Wildcat Battalion hosts a car wash once a year in order to give the cadets a chance to help out their community. It also gives the junior and senior cadets a chance at leadership by working with freshmen cadets.
The cadets arrived at the courthouse early in the morning to help set up the wash. The cadets worked long and hard to clean and detail cars, trucks, and even a semitruck.
Each cadet was split into groups that were led by other cadets and JROTC instructors. The groups were made in order to teach the cadets how to work together as a team.
In the afternoon, the old courthouse parking lot was completely packed with cars whose owners were eager for them to get a wash. That still didn’t stop the cadets, the students delivered clean cars while under immense stress.
Another major obstacle from the car wash was the weather, it was sunny with a high in the low 90s. To reduce the risk of heat injuries, parents and JROTC instructors offered cold refreshments to the cadets.
At the end of the day, the car wash was a success. It not only gave cars a good wash, but it also received a generous amount of donations, according to the JROTC Booster Club Treasurer Stacie Burton.
“The JROTC car wash raised over $2,000 thanks to the generosity of the Richmond Hill community,” Burton said. “The money goes towards other JROTC programs such as the Raiders, Drill team, field trips, and the yearly military ball.”
