Bryan County Commission Chairman Carter Infinger has announced his plans to run for Congress on Saturday.

Chairman Infinger, who was recently re-elected for a third term last fall, is aiming to represent Georgia's 1st Congressional District as a Republican to fill the seat currently held by U.S. Rep. Earl L. "Buddy" Carter (R), who has announced his Senate run against incumbent Sen. Jon Ossoff (D) earlier this week. 

A seasoned Bryan politician, Infinger cited the need for "good conservative leadership in the House" to represent the 1st District, which covers 15 different counties along Georgia's southeastern coast, including Bryan, Chatham, and Liberty.

Prior to first being elected to the chairman's post in 2016, Infinger also served six years as District 4 Commissioner in the Bryan County Board of Commissions. Key highlights of his tenure as Commission Chairman include lowering millage rates on property taxes as well as garnering support for the Hyundai Metaplant in Black Creek, an electric vehicle manufacturing plant estimated to bring $7.5 billion worth of investment into Bryan County, and more than $11 billion into the state of Georgia.
