Fort McAllister to host 42nd annual candle lantern tour

Experience Fort McAllister in a whole new light with a guided candlelit tour, an annual tradition since 1979. 

Living history programs include soldiers performing their evening duties and civilian life during the Civil War.  Tours include stops at the blacksmith’s shop, hot shot furnace, hospital, powder magazine, barracks, jail and more.  Visitors get to see an exclusive nighttime cannon firing. 

 The event will be held at Fort McAllister State Historic Park Visitors Center,  3894 Fort McAllister Road in Richmond Hill Friday, October 15 and Saturday, October 16.  Tours are 30 minutes each. The first tour will begin at 6 p.m. and the last tour will begin at 9:30 p.m.   

         The cost is $25 per person (ages 2 and under are free).

 Pre-registration is required for this event by calling the park office at 912.727.2339.

  Guests are encouraged to leave their flashlights at home in favor of an authentic candlelight setting.
