A Florida couple was killed just after noon Saturday in a wreck on Highway 301 in Long County. However, authorities suspect circumstances surrounding the wreck might stem from a reported incident at a Richmond Hill area hotel, according to Richmond Hill Police Department Maj. Mike Albritton.

A housekeeping staffer at the hotel, which has not been named, reportedly found a note left by a guest that elicited concern. The hotel reported the note to authorities, and a “be on the lookout” warning was issued for the car the couple was thought to be traveling in – a 2007 Ford Mustang.

Later in the day, when first responders were on the scene of the wreck on 301, an officer realized the mangled vehicle was the same one authorities had issued the “BOLO” for.

RHPD and the Georgia State Patrol are investigating the case. No additional details are available at this time, but the Bryan County News will report more on this story as information is provided.
