DDA aids local businesses in gift card promotion
Richmond Hill City logo

Last summer during the peak of the COVID-19 shutdown, the Richmond Hill Downtown Development Authority went to work to assist the locally-owned restaurant community. Thousands of dollars in gift cards were purchased which served as a “micro-loan” to these local businesses. Now that restrictions are lessening and more and more businesses are returning to a fully open model, the Downtown Development Authority wants to get people back into locally owned retail and service establishments.

Any locally-owned, non-chain retail or service business who would like to utilize these gift cards as a promotion to encourage people to choose their business can call the Downtown Development Authority and request them. In return, the businesses are asked to post on their social media and tag the Downtown Development Authority of Richmond Hill when giving these cards away.

The DDA’s staffperson Alex Floyd says there’s little if any strings attached. “Contests, rewards, social media promotions, scavenger hunts, anything goes. However, your business can best get people in the door and spurring our local economy. Downtown Richmond Hill is open for business and this will be an opportunity for businesses to help businesses."
