Committee exempts quill flags from sign regs
City Council to vote May 7 on new ordinance

The Richmond Hill Committee for Architectural Review decided in a meeting on Tuesday afternoon to exempt quill flags from the city's proposed sign ordinance.

Permits for quill flags would not be required, but quill flags would be limited to one per business. Additionally, businesses must keep the flags in good condition, the committee decided.

City Council member Russ Carpenter is on the committee, and said the business owners he talked to about keeping the quill flags in good shape were on board with that requirement.

Although the committee decided to exempt quill flags from the new sign ordinance, the matter won't be official until voted on by City Council. The council is expected to vote whether to approve the ordinance at its regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. on May 7.
