Vehicle tax options expires today

ATLANTA — The Georgia Department of Revenue is reminding residents who bought motor vehicles on or after Jan. 1, 2012, and prior to March 1, 2013, they can opt in to the new title ad valorem tax until the close of business on Thursday.
The opt-in period provides an opportunity to do a comparison between the current annual ad valorem tax — normally paid on a birthday — and the new one-time tax. Residents may be eligible to opt in to the new tax and get credit for sales tax and annual ad valorem taxes already paid.
Residents that need help comparing the various options should visit http://onlinemvd.dor.ga.gov/Tap/welcome.aspx.
Those choosing to opt in should visit the local county tag office on or before Thursday to get assistance from a county tag agent. Bring all pertinent documentation to the tag office: a bill of sale; driver’s license, etc.
Tag offices are within the in the county courthouse at 11 N. Courthouse St. in Pembroke, 653-3880, and in the County Administrative Complex at 66 Capt. Matthew Freeman Drive, Suite 102 in Richmond Hill, 756-2434. Both locations are open 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.
