In recent transfer Caeylin Menzie, the Richmond Hill High School Wildcats football team has yet another player to help their potent rushing attack.
Menzie, who came from Benedictine, is the third tailback in the last two years that has played for Richmond Hill and has earned Division 1 scholarship offers for football.
In addition to his abilities on the field, Menzie brings other intangibles that can help the Wildcats.
“I bring a strong work ethic and lead by example,” Menzie said. “I believe that pushing myself helps motivate the whole team to stay focused and improve every day.”
Although Richmond Hill is over halfway done with their season, Menzie had some injuries that have kept him off the field. However, he was finally able to see action for the first time at their away game against the Tift County Blue Devils.
“I actually cried being given an opportunity to make my first appearance,” Menzie said. “It was an exciting and proud moment following unfortunate events in 10th grade, when I broke my arm. I started off this year with a high ankle sprain as well, but to touch that field again, it felt great to contribute and be part of the team’s energy on game day. I am blessed that God and Coach LeZotte and the Richmond Hill coaching staff gave me this opportunity.”
Menzie did not disappoint that night as he carried the ball seven times for sixty-four yards and a touchdown, averaging an impressive 9.1 yards per carry.
“With Richmond Hill’s focus on the run game, my role is to be a reliable asset,” Menzie said. “I also have to have that physical presence, whether that’s blocking or making key plays to help the offense move the chains.”
The types of plays that he makes, in addition to being able to run the ball and average nearly a first down each time he does, is what helped him earn various football scholarship offers so far.
“The offer came after they saw my potential at the camp,” Menzie said. “It was rewarding to see my hard work recognized by a program like Georgia State. And following the Georgia state camp Shorter saw my potential at their camp as well and offered me, too. To be able to showcase my talent without film speaks volumes and now with film I will be able to establish myself as an elite running back and more offers will start to roll in.”
Despite receiving early offers from two in-state programs, Menzie knows that he has to continue to work on his craft in order to grow as a player.
“I’m always working on my speed and footwork,” Menzie said. “I also work on my understanding of the playbook to make quicker decisions on the field and understand other teammate’s responsibilities.”
Menzie has several things that he wants to accomplish; both as an individual athlete, and as a member of the Wildcats football team.
“I want to establish myself as a great player, student and teammate through hard work and dedication,” Menzie said. “I also want to establish a bond of trust among the coaching staff. I want to keep improving my skills and consistency. As a team our goal is to compete hard every game and make a deep playoff run.”
“I’m grateful for the support from coaches, teammates, family, and my second family Canaan Missionary Baptist Church. I’m excited about what this season holds and ready to give my best.”
Menzie and the rest of the Wildcats will host another Wildcats team, as the Camden County High School Wildcats come to town on Friday, Oct. 3. Kickoff for the game is at 7pm.
