The Richmond Hill YMCA is gearing up for its annual Priceless Gifts campaign that helps fund scholarships to various YMCA programs throughout the year.
Priceless Gifts events begin Monday and continue through March 23 and include a nutrition seminar, two-hour “spin-a-thons,” two-hour Zumba-thons and fitness challenges. All funds raised from the events will go toward the Priceless Gifts campaign.
“We at the YMCA have a policy that no family or individual will ever be turned away for an inability to pay for camp, sports, childcare, or any other program the YMCA offers,” said Mary Arocha, executive director of the Richmond Hill YMCA. “We want all children to be able to enjoy all the YMCA has to offer.”
In 2010, the YMCA of Coastal Georgia gave away more than $500,000 in scholarships, Arocha said, while the YMCA in Richmond Hill gave more than $60,000 in assistance to support program participants in after school child care, summer day camp, swimming lessons, membership and youth sports in Richmond Hill.
“All the money we raise at the Richmond Hill YMCA stays right here in our community to support our Richmond Hill needs,” she said. “What is even better is that we weave character-building values into every program we run. That‘s why we say that ‘the YMCA builds strong kids, strong families and strong communities.’”
Arocha said many people in the community benefit from the YMCA directly and everyone benefits indirectly, whether it’s someone in a homeless situation, a single father who needs child care assistance, an elderly person, a family whose main breadwinner has lost his or her job or any other special need. She noted that the YMCA has stood by its promise to never turn anyone away.
“The support raised during the Priceless Gifts campaign is a vital resource to this promise,” she said.
