Spend New Year's Eve at Club Stewart

Welcome 2014 at a New Year's Eve Extravaganza at Club Stewart.

The extravaganza, from 9 p.m.-1 a.m. Dec. 31, features live entertainment by 3rd Class Citizens, plus DJ Freak Show playing old school hits.

Tickets are $20 in advance or $30 at door. They are on sale at Club Stewart and Leisure Travel. 

The price includes a midnight champagne toast, party hats, favors and a balloon drop. Food items for sale will include wings, samplers for two and breakfast in a cup. 

Tow-2-Go will be available for returning home, within 10 mile. Taxi phone numbers will also be posted.

Fitness instructors needed

You can make a difference in a child’s life and earn volunteer hours by becoming a certified fitness instructor at Fort Stewart’s Youth Sports and Fitness Center.

Areas in which help is needed include aerobics, pilates, kick boxing and zumba. Your pupils’ ages will range from 8-18.

Dinner and bowling

Families are invited to a discounted dinner and bowling special from noon-7 p.m. Dec. 29 at Stewart Bowling Center.

For $30, your family of five gets 10 games and five shoe rentals along with a supreme pizza and refillable drink.

Wall climbing

The annual Extreme Wall Climbing Challenge starts Jan. 1 at Corkan Family Fun Center. Three winners will be crowned: man and woman and child (ages 8-18). Winners get free admission to the climbing room for a year.

The challenge is to climb all routes available in the room. Cost is $5 per hour. Contest continues until winners master all routes.

Bistro nights

Beginning in late January, Club Stewart will serve a four-course dinners every Friday from 5-9 p.m. The cost will be $10.95 for adults and $5.95 for children under 10. The price includes salad bar, appetizer, entree and dessert.

Babysitting course

Teens can become certified babysitters at the SKIES CYSitters Teenage Babysitter Course from 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Jan. 2 and 3.

The free course will be at SKIES Unlimited on Davis Avenue.

Youth will learn basic child care and get certified in first aid and CPR.

Winery tour

Visit the Meinhardt Vineyards and Winery in Statesboro with Leisure Travel on Jan. 11 for a tour, tasting and dinner. Participants must be 21 or older. The cost is $40 per person.

Range shooting

Soldiers, retirees, Army civilians and guests can sight-in large caliber weapons Jan. 11 from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at Red Cloud Range Complex-Echo.

Bring your rifles or muzzle loaders of any caliber. Targets are at 100 to 1,000 meters. The cost is $10 per two-hour block/person. Register at the Pass and Permit Office or onsite. For details, call 435-8061 or 767-4316.

 

8 for 8 bowling league

An 8 for 8 bowling league at Stewart Bowling Center is open to everyone who wants to learn to bowl.

Participants bowl two games on Saturday from 10 a.m.-noon starting Jan. 11. At the end on March 1, participants receive their own bowling ball.

Shotgun orientation

A Youth First Steps Shotgun Orientation Class to introduce to firearms safety, handling and shooting skills will be 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Jan. 11 at Holbrook Pond Recreation Area.

Classroom training will be 8 a.m.-noon. Range time will be from 1-3 p.m. Shotguns, ammo and material will be provided. Participants may bring their own weapon. 

The cost is be $30 per person and the maximum class size is 15. It is open to ages 10-16.

Health fair

Set your 2014 fitness goals during the free Aerobic-Thon and Health Fair from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Jan. 11 at Newman Fitness Center.

Sample classes such as kick-boxing, step, line-dancing, pilates and more. The fair features fitness assessments, nutritional information and screenings. Plus, you can sign up for the 10-Pound Challenge to get rid of weight you might have gained over the holidays.

Cruise trip

For a day of fun, sail with Leisure Travel aboard the Emerald Princess II casino cruise ship out of Brunswick Jan. 18. Deadline to sign up is Jan. 15.

NBA, battle of bands

Travel with BOSS to Atlanta and watch the Hawks play the San Antonio Spurs in NBA action on Jan. 24. Then, watch the 12thannual Honda Battle of the Bands on Jan. 25.
