Set sail with Leisure Travel on a five-day Bahamas cruise leaving from Jacksonville next fall. Ports of calls are Nassau and Freeport.

Register at Leisure Travel offices. Prices are $349.76 per person (inside rooms) and $389.76 (ocean view rooms), based on double occupancy. First deposit of $25 is due Sept. 7. The second, $200 deposit, is due June 15 and the final payment is due Aug. 15, 2016.

Movies Under Stars

"Guardians of the Galaxy,” rated PG-13, is next up in the Holbrook Movies Under the Stars series. “Guardians” will be shown at 8:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11. There’s no charge. Movie-goers are asked to bring chairs or blankets. Popcorn and drinks will be sold.

 

Foot Golf Scramble

Hunter Garrison Commander LTC Michael Squires invites all to his four-person Foot Golf Scramble starting at 9 a.m. Sept. 11 at Hunter Golf Course. The cost is $20 per person for the tournament, golf cart, light lunch and prizes. It is $15 without a cart. Players are asked to register by Sept. 10. For more information, call 315-9115.

 

Light Up the Night

The Light Up the Night Glow 5K Run/Walk and After Party will be Friday, Sept. 11, at Newman Field.

The Patriots Day commemoration, in remembrance of all who perished on 9/11, will be start at 7 p.m. at Cottrell Field. It will serve as a closing ceremony for 3rd ID's September 11th Memorial Ruck March and the opening of MWR's Light Up the Night 5K event.

3rd ID and Fort Stewart’s FMWR invites all retired, active and veteran first responders, emergency service members and Gold Star families to be a part of the commemoration. Those in attendance also are encouraged to take part in the run and other aspects of Light Up the Night.

The cost for adults is $40 per person ($10 for 11 and younger) payable at the event. A special $100 for four-person team also is offered. Participants get a T-shirt, race bib, glow glasses and glow necklace.

The start/finish of the run will be on Sixth Street adjacent to the Quick Track. The run will wind through Taylors Creek Golf Course.

The After Party will feature a black light zone, bounce houses, giant Jenga, life-size Pong, other outdoor games and a deejay.

Golf clinic

A free golf clinic for beginners and intermediate golfers will be from 4-5 p.m. Sept. 15 at the Taylors Creek Golf Course driving range. Participants are asked to register by Sept. 14. For more information, call 767-2370.

 

Strongman/strongwoman

Registration is under way for the Strongman/Strongwoman Competition at Johnson Fitness Center on Sept. 19. Cost is $15 per person. Sign up at Johnson or Newman fitness centers. Weigh-in is at 8:30 a.m., competition at 10 a.m. Open to active duty, retirees and DA civilians, who will compete in five events; tire flip, keg toss, stone carry, farmer walk and deadlifts. Awards will be presented to top finishers in each of four weight classes. For more information, call 767-3031.    

 

Jersey dance

A Youth Center Favorite Team Jersey Dance will be from 7-10 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Youth Fitness Center. There will be a deejay, refreshments, games and door prizes. Participants are asked to wear their favorite sports team jersey. For more information, call 767-4491.

 

Warrior Challenge

Registration is under way for the CrossFit Fort Stewart Warrior Challenge from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at Caro Fitness Center. The cost is $30 per person through Oct. 15 and $35 per person from Oct. 16-22.

Contestants in eight divisions must complete three high-intensity, varied, functional movement workouts.
