Historic cemetery tours set

Halloween cemetery tours, including actors and storytellers, will be held Oct. 19 in the Midway historical cemetery.

Events begin at dusk, with tours running at 6 p.m., 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Visitors are asked to bring their own flashlights for the guided walking tour.

The cemetery dates from the 1750s. Among the people buried there are Gens. Stewart and Screven, the LeContes and the Rev. C.C. Jones Sr. of the book “Children of Pride.”

“These tours are a fun way to get the whole family interested in the revolutionary and colonial history which is on our doorstep in Midway — although we cannot guarantee that any of the cemetery’s ghosts will appear,” said Diane Kroell, executive director of the Midway Museum.

A limited number of tickets are available for purchase at the Midway Museum. On the evening  reservations are required. Ticket prices are $6 per adult and $3 per child, with a special family packet available at $15 for two adults and two children. Military, student and senior-citizen discounts are available. Tickets are being sold in advance at the Midway Museum, located in the heart of the Midway Historic District across from the famous cemetery.
