Garden plots offered to military families

Free, 20-by-20-foot garden plots, near Bit and Bridle Equestrian Club stables off Highway 144 on Fort Stewart are available on a first-come basis.

Sign up at Holbrook Equipment Rental Facility, where you can also rent tillers. Gardeners must supply their own gardening tools, hoses, fertilizer, etc. For more information, call 912-435-8205.

 

Golf course reopening

The Commander's Golf Scramble, in conjunction with the grand reopening of Hunter Golf Course, will tee off at 8 a.m. Friday. The $45 per person registration for the 4-person scramble covers a light lunch, cart and green fees, range balls and prizes. For more information, call 912-315-9115.

 

Parent/child golf clinc

The Get Golf Ready program for parents and children, 7 and older, is coming to Taylors Creek Golf Course Saturday, and again on April 30, from 1-2 p.m. PGA player John Fesperman will introduce the parent/child teams to the swing, course and game. Bowling discount

Easter brunch

Celebrate Easter with friends and family at brunch at Club Stewart, 0:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday. The public is welcome.

The menu will feature a carving station, side dishes and desserts. Save $3 per adult and $1 per child by buying tickets before Friday, when prices go up to $17.95 for adults and $7.45 for children. Children younger than 2 eat free.

All-Army 10 Miler

Soldiers are invited to run in All-Army 10 Miler qualifier races at Donovan Field Track on Fort Stewart. First is at 6 a.m. April 2. Second is at 6 a.m. May 7. Register before April 2 at Stewart's Bennett Sports Complex, 912-767-8238, or on Donovan at 5:30 a.m. Family members, retirees and DoD civilians welcome to run for fun. Sports equipment sale

Used weights (racks, benches, machines, plates, bars, weights, dumbbells) and recreation equipment (boats, campers, bikes, trailers) will be sold April 2 at Tominac Fitness Center on Hunter. Open to DOD cardholders only from 8-9 a.m., and then cardholders and community from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. All items sold as is. Items must be removed that day. Only cash and credit card payments accepted. Youth Center shuttle

A free shuttle service to and from the Fort Stewart Youth Center MST and the Southern Oaks, South Bryan and Liberty Woods housing areas will begin April 4. Color run/walk

Be ready to sparkle as you pass glitter powder stations in the Extreme Color Run/Walk Glitter Edition 5K starting at 9 a.m. April 16 in the Holbrook Pond Recreation Area off Highway 144.

The run supports Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month and is open to the public.

Register online using WebTrac or visit Stewart/Hunter Leisure Travel offices. Cost is $20 through March 29, $30 from March 30 to April 14 and then $40 on April 15 and at the run.

Run is open to the public. Strollers and school aged children's bicycles are welcomed, but not pets.

Softball league

Companies interested in playing intramural softball should submit memos to their sports office by April 15. Play starts April 25. There is no charge. Stewart games are played at Bennett Sports Complex and Hunter games at Squires Sports Complex. White water rafting

Registration is being accepted for an overnight trip to the National White Water Center near Charlotte, N.C. Group will depart at 5 a.m. July 16. From 7-10 p.m. that evening, see live bands. Food and beverages for sale. Lodging will be at Holiday Inn Express, which will serve breakfast the following morning. Cost is $150 per person, which covers transportation, lodging and entertainment. A payment plan is available. An option to visit Carowinds at additional cost will be offered. Bingo Challenge 

The new Thursday Night Challenge, 4 p.m.-midnight at Hunter/Stewart Bingo, features new games and jackpots, more prize money and intermission specials. There will be eleven $250 games, jackpots up to $9,000 and $1,500 coverall. The cost to play ranges from $13-$40. Stewart Bingo is in building 405 (912-767-4200) and Hunter Bingo is in building 6015 (912-315-4606).

 

Pre-K lotteries

Registration continues until April 6 for the free, Georgia-funded CYSS Pre-Kindergarten Program at Fort Stewart and Hunter daycares. The drawing will be April 7. Students must be 4 on or before Sept. 1.
