Stewart/Hunter’s Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation has merged its website with the Army MWR enterprise web system. At www.stewarthuntermwr.com, customers can click on “Stewart” or “Hunter” to learn about all the events and programs being offered by MWR.  

 

Gridiron Challenge

Match your NFL managing skills with others at the Gridiron Challenge every Friday from 5-7 p.m. in Warriors Lounge at Club Stewart. There’s no admission charge. You must be at least 18 to play and 21 to drink. Each week, the person who picks the most winners gets a prize. Records will be kept and after 17 weeks, $400 will be awarded to the person with the most winning picks. For more information, call 767-4717.

 

Foot golf tournament

Taylors Creek Golf Course will host a Foot Golf Tournament Saturday. Registration will be at 11:30 a.m. and kickoff will be at 12:30 p.m. Cost is $10 per player if the player has a number 5 soccer ball. Cost to rent a ball is $2. Cart not included in fee. For more information, call 767-2370.

 

Kids fishing

Youth, 16 and younger, of military ID cardholders can fish from 7-10 a.m. Saturday at Hallstrom Lake, off South Perimeter Road. Permit and state fishing license fees waived and there’s no charge. Limit of five catfish per child. Prizes, drinks and snacks available. A limited amount of bait and loaner poles will be handed out on a first-come basis. So bring your own pole. Bass tournament

The last bass tournament the year, when angler of the year will be awarded, is set for Saturday. Anglers compete for prizes where heaviest combined weight of up to five bass wins. The catch and release tournament is from 5:30-noon Saturday at Metz Pond. Door prizes after weigh-in and awards handed out. Fish from bank or launch a boat with trolling motors only. No live bait. Must have valid Georgia and Stewart/Hunter permits (unless age 15 and under). Open to soldiers, family members, retirees and civilians.

Dodgeball league

Companies interested in a dodgeball league can sign up at Tominac Fitness Center onb Hunter until Sept. 28. There is no charge. Games will be played at 6 and 7 p.m. Mondays-Thursday at Tominac starting Oct. 5. Find out who has the best team at Hunter. For more information, call 315-5078.

 

Bingo dinners

Free customer appreciation dinners will be served at Fort Stewart Bingo, adjacent to Club Stewart, and Hunter Bingo at 6 p.m. Sept. 28. The dinner is free to the first 40 customers at Stewart and the first 80 at Hunter. On the menu are beef and broccoli stir fry, bourbon chicken on a stick, fried rice, lo-mein noodles, mini spring rolls, coconut pudding and fortune cookies. Commander’s Golf Scramble

Commanders Golf Scramble will have a 1 p.m. start Sept. 30 at Taylors Creek Golf Course. Everyone is invited to play in the 2-person modified team scramble. The $45 per person entry fee includes the tournament, range balls, golf cart, mulligans, prizes and lunch. Registration will be at 11:30 a.m. Lunch will be at noon. Youth Action Council

Teens can help to improve their quality of life at the free Youth Action Council meeting Sept. 30 from 5-6 p.m. at the Fort Stewart Youth Center, 62 Mindoro Loop. Community theater

Fort Stewart/Hunter Community Theatre will have auditions at Newman Fitness Center for a production of “Eb Scrooge: A Southern Fried Carol,” Oct. 1-3. Up to 50 cast members (25 and 25 females) are needed, as well as set designers and builders, lighting and sound technicians, plus stage hands. Auditions are 6-8 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, Oct. 1 and 2; and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3. For more information, call 767-6212.

 

Free basketball camp

Armstrong State University basketball teams will conduct a free Kids Camp from 9 a.m.-noon Oct. 3 at Tominac Fitness Center on Hunter. The camp is for youth 8-17. Parents must be present. In addition to instruction, participants will get T-shirts and players’ autographs. For more information, call 315-5078.

 

Modified scramble

Play in a four-person modified scramble at Taylors Creek Golf Course starting at 9 a.m. Oct. 3. Players can sign up on that day, but are asked to register earlier. The $40 per person cost includes greens fee, cart and range balls. For more information, call 767-2370.

 

Post-Wide garage sale

Everyone, military and civilian, can shop the neighborhood garage sale throughout post housing on Stewart and Hunter from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 3.

Only post-housing residents can sell. Residents are asked to register by Sept. 28 to have their sale noted on the Stewart/Hunter FMWR website.

Gate passes for civilians may be obtained two days in advance from Gate 1 at Stewart and Montgomery Street Gate at Hunter. For more information, call 767-8238 on Stewart or 315-5078 at Hunter.

 

Monday Golf Blitz

Monday Blitz at Taylors Creek Golf Course begins Oct. 5 and continues through Dec. 14. Tee off between 4:30 and 5 p.m. Play is open to men and women and will cost $23 per person. Participants must play 8 of the 11 weeks to qualify for the championship, although everyone who plays on Monday qualifies for daily prizes that day. A nine-hole point system will be used. Kayak Coastal Georgia

A Leisure Travel Kayak Float Trip starts at 9 a.m. Oct. 10 on a Coastal Georgia waterway.

The cost is $20 per person and includes transportation to the start and end point for the trip. Youth under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Paddlers must be at least 12 years old. Participants are asked to bring a sack lunch.
