Basketball bouncing into Stewart, Hunter

Turkey Trot
The Turkey Trot Fun Run, a 5K or 1.5 mile run or walk for the family, will get under way at 10 a.m. Nov. 15 at Hunter Army Airfield.
There is no charge. Everyone who runs or walks will be eligible for a drawing of a gift certificate for a turkey. Only one turkey per family will be given out.
Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. at Stephen Douglas Street and North Perimeter Road, the starting point.

Rifle sight-in
Soldiers, retirees, Army civilians and civilian guests can sight-in large caliber weapons Nov. 15 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Small Arms November Range on Fort Stewart.
Targets provided and shooting benches available at each point. The cost is $5 per two-hour block/person. To get there from Gulick Avenue, take 15th Street to McFarland, turn right onto FS Road 40 and follow signs. The range is a half mile past the main railhead, on the right.

Fall basketball, cheerleading
Enroll Parent Central Services (767-2312) for youth basketball and cheerleading on Fort Stewart. Registration for boys and girls basketball (ages 5-17) and cheerleading (ages 6-13) ends Nov. 30.
Coed team practices begin in December and the season begins mid-January. Fees per child are $20 for ages 4-5 and $40 for ages 6-18. For more information, call Youth Sports at 767-5079.
On Hunter, youth can also sign up for basketball and cheerleading at Parent Central Services. Registration for boys and girls basketball (ages 4-17) and cheerleading (ages 4-12) ends Nov. 20.
Practice and the season start the same as on Stewart. Games are played at surrounding YMCA and Jewish Education Alliance courts. Smaller age groups play on Hunter courts, depending on number of teams. Fees per person are $20 for ages 4-5 and $40 for ages 6-17.

Basketball clinics
SKIES Unlimited will host youth basketball clinics for third-10th graders at the Fort Stewart Youth Center from 2-5 p.m. Nov 16, 23, 30, and Dec 7 and 14. The cost will be $15 per clinic per person.
Coach Jason Baker will provide tips and techniques on pivoting, catching, passing, dribbling, shooting, defense, faking, cutting, rebounding and other drills.
Baker played varsity basketball from 1992-1996 at Montreat College. He was a military trainer from 2004-13. In 2013, he was Coastal Ballers AAU 9th grade coach and in 2013-14 was Richmond Hill individual skills coach. He’s the father of five basketball players.

Company-level basketball
Register by Nov. 21 for the Company-Level Basketball League, which runs Dec. 8-March at Newman and Tominac fitness centers. Games are played Monday-Thursday. Interested companies need to submit a letter of intent to play to Bennett Sports Complex at Stewart or Squires Sports Offices at Hunter. Managed hunts
Soldiers and retirees can sign up now for one of the remaining Outdoor Recreation managed hunts at Fort Stewart this season. Sign up at the Stewart or Hunter Pass and Permit offices.
The registration deadline is Nov. 12 for a Nov. 22 hunt in the Red Cloud Area. The final hunt will be in the Bravo 4 area Dec. 20, with a signup deadline of Dec. 10.
Fifty participants for each hunt will be selected in drawings. A $10 fee per hunter is payable upon selection for the hunt.

Thanksgiving to-go
Orders will be taken through Nov. 21 for Club Stewart’s no mess, no stress option for all holiday meals. Order turkey and ham by the pound (10-pound minimum), plus sides of mashed potatoes, Southern green bean casserole, macaroni and cheese, cornbread stuffing and sweet potato or pumpkin pie.
Select a package, or build your own option. Last day for pickup will be Nov. 26.

Turkey egg hunt
Help find all the eggs left by turkeys in the area of Cypress Creek Adventure Golf on Dec. 1.
Kids (ages 0-5) are invited to hunt the missing eggs while having fun. The hunt is free and starts at 10 a.m. For more information, call 767-4273.

Brunch with Santa
Plan to enjoy a brunch with Santa on Dec. 7 from 10:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Club Stewart. The menu will include breakfast favorites.
There will be photo opportunities with Santa.
Tickets are $14.95 for adults and $6.95 for children until Dec. 5. The cost after that is $17.95 for adults and $7.95 for children. Children 2 and under are free. For more information, call 767-4717.

Fun in mountains
Register until Dec. 31 for a Leisure Travel trip to go sightseeing, shopping, skiing, snowboarding and snow tubing in the mountains of Gatlinburg Tenn., Jan. 16-18.
The cost is $450 for 1-4 persons per room stay in the River Terrace Resort and motor coach transportation to Smokey Mountains. There is an additional $50 charge for fifth person.
