Back-to-school fair on Hunter

A Community Activities, Information and Registration and Back-to-School Fair will be from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. July 30 at Tominac Fitness Center on Hunter.

Soldiers and families will have a one-stop place to learn about all aspects of the area, including education at all levels.

Some exhibitors will offer free samples of products and services.

United Military Care Organization representatives will give out age-appropriate school supplies. To receive them, military families must present ID cards and their children must be present.

Fort Stewart's CAIR and Back-to-School Fair at set for this Thursday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in Newman Fitness Center.

Parents golf outing

Spend the afternoon on the course and save during the Parents Day Golf Outing, after noon on Sunday at Hunter Golf Course. Pay 18-hole green fees and cart for one and get the second free. For more information, call 912-315-9115.

 

Long range sight-in

Soldiers, retirees, Army civilians and guests can sight-in large caliber weapons Aug. 2 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Red Cloud Range Complex-Echo.

Bring your rifles or muzzle loaders of any caliber. No pistols or shotguns. Steel targets available at long range distance. Paper targets from 100-500 meters.

Princess Tea

Tickets are on sale at the Stewart/Hunter Leisure Travel offices for the Princess Tea from 1-3 p.m. Aug. 9 at the Fort Stewart Youth Center.

The tickets will be sold until noon Aug. 8 at the Leisure Travel offices. Tickets are limited and customers should buy them soon. The event is likely to sell out. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for youth, 10 and younger.

Military affiliated parents, grandparents or guardians and their daughters are invited to create memories during an afternoon enjoying tea, finger foods, games and more.

Dress is princess attire: fancy dresses, hats and gloves.

Leisure Travel is in the PX Furniture Mall on Stewart and in the Hunter PX Exchange.

The tea is hosted by the Liberty County Armed Services YMCA and FMWR.

Float trips  

Join Outdoor Recreation on a canoe/kayak float down a coastal Georgia river on Aug. 16.

All equipment is provided and lifeguards will be on the trip. Bring your own lunch for a picnic on a sandbar or shaded area. The $20 per person cost includes use of canoe or kayak.

Top of the Rock run

Registration for the Top of the Rock 5K and 10K Run for Resiliency, a chipped race, runs to Sept. 6. It is open to the public.

The run will have 10 age categories for men and women, plus a 10K team competition for active duty with a minimum of 10 members from the same company.

All participants will get T-shirts. Trophies will be awarded to the top three overall 5K and 10K men and women, top two finishers in each age category and the top two team finishers.

Register online only at www.ACTIVE.com by Sept. 3. Team pre-registration ends Sept. 4.

The run begins at 8 a.m. Sept. 6 between Newman Fitness Center and the Quick Track. The cost to register before event is $25 for DoD ID cardholders and $30 for civilians. Day-of-race registration fee is $40.

Bend-the-Bar

Registration is under way for the Stewart/Hunter “Bend-the-Bar” Powerlifting and Bench Press Challenge Sept. 20 at 4thIBCT Fitness Center.

The competition is open to men and women in 12 weight classes. Participants must be at least 16 years old. Entry fee is $15 per person until Sept. 15 and $20 after that.

Competition will follow United States Power-lifting Federation rules. Each participant will get three attempts to lift their maximum weight.

Weigh-ins will be from 8-9:30 a.m. Rules clinic will begin at 9:30 a.m. and the competition begins at 10 a.m.

T-shirts will be given to each paying participant and prizes will be awarded in all weight classes.

Get Golf Ready

Enroll now for this season’s second Get Golf Ready at Hunter Golf Course on Aug. 12, 14, 16, 19 and 21. Sign-ups will be accepted until Aug. 11.

Get Golf Ready is open to beginners looking for instruction and information.

The cost is $149, and includes a one-month membership at the course, a dozen Nike golf balls, and five one-hour instruction sessions on mechanics, rules and etiquette.

Babysitting course

Teens can become certified babysitters by completing the SKIES CYSSitter Teenage Babysitter Course from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Aug. 16 and 23.

The free course will be at SKIES Unlimited, across from Diamond Elementary.

Participants must attend both days to become certified, and a minimum of five students is needed. Register at CYSS Parent Central Services. For more information, call 767-2312/4831.
