Fundraiser for ORK

SAVANNAH — Area residents are invited to raise a glass — and some funds — at the first in a series of "Cheers for Charity" fundraisers organized by Coastal Empire Beer Co.

The company’s inaugural event will be from 6-8 p.m. today and will benefit Ogeechee Riverkeeper.

Coastal Empire Beer is at 79 Ross Road in Savannah. For more information on "Cheers for Charity," go to ogeecheeriverkeeper.org, call 866-942-6222 or email info@ogeecheeriverkeeper.org.

Jesse Demonbreun-Chapman talked about the programs of Ogeechee Riverkeeper at a meeting of the Rotary Club of Richmond Hill.

He is watershed outreach coordinator with the nonprofit, which works to protect, preserve and improving the Ogeechee, Canoochee and other coastal rivers.

Chapman entertained club members with photos of Ogeechee Riverkeeper’s work.

"Our educational outreach program is one of our most important because we have to educate our youth about the changes they need to make to ensure the river remains clean and healthy for us all," he said.

He also encouraged members to join the organization and take part in monthly float trips.

Membership costs $35 for individuals, $50 for households and $250 for corporate sponsors. For information, go to Ogeechee Riverkeeper’s website at www.ogeecheeriverkeeper.org. Go to http://www.rotaryof%20richmondhill.org for more information about Rotary.
