But it seemed to fit with her beliefs.
Idrissi, who is Muslim and has parents from Pakistan and Morocco, wears a headscarf in the photos for H&Ms latest denim collection making her the first model to wear a hijab for H&M, the Daily Mail reported.
Most of the campaign shots, like the one seen below, include the word chic.
It might be because hijab fashion has boomed in the last few years and to finally see a hijabi [a woman who wears a hijab] in mainstream fashion is a big achievement, Idrissi told Fusion.
At first glance, Idrissis attire may seem like H&Ms attempt to attract the 1.6 billion Muslim shoppers around the world, Fusion reported. This isnt an uncommon idea. As our own Kelsey Dallas reported in July, DKNY launched a Ramadan collection of clothes that, some say, was designed to reel in Muslim consumers.
But H&Ms campaign may be something more.
H&M has been touting diversity in recent months. Its "Close the Loop" campaign, which focuses on recycling clothes around the world, "includes an amputee model, plus-sized models, a Gulf Sheikh and a group of Sikh men, according to Fusion. Idrissi also makes an appearance.
Still, H&M's latest denim collection campaign, no matter its reason, aligns with Idrissis personal beliefs. Before the campaign began, Idrissi shared her modest clothing style on her Instagram page. According to the Daily Mail, she has long advocated for modest clothing among both men and women.
Hijab includes the way a person walks, talks, looks and thinks, one of her Instagram posts read. All of it should be done modestly and applies to both men and women.
