Pembroke Lions Club

The Pembroke Lions Club will observe "White Cane Day" on April 7 with a bucket brigade set up under the red light. The proceeds from the donations will go toward the Lighthouse for the Blind project. The Pembroke Lions Club meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Pembroke Library.


Historical Society

On April 5 at 7 p.m. the Richmond Hill Historical Society is pleased to present Tally Kirkland. Kirkland will be discussing the Life and Times of the Civil War Soldier. Prior to retiring from the National Park Service he was the director at Fort Pulaski. Kirkland is now spending time at our own Fort McAllister and is an expert on the Civil War Era. The April meeting has been moved from the Wetlands Center to the Richmond Hill Library. Call the Richmond Hill Historical Society Museum at 756-3697 for information.


Easter egg hunt

Pembroke will have its city-wide Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 7 at 10 a.m. at DuBose Square (located at the corner of Ledford and Gibson Street).

Activities will include face painting, a visit from the Easter bunny, crafts, prizes and goodie bags for the kids, and of course, the annual Easter egg hunt. Don’t forget to bring your Easter basket!


Pembroke UMC

Pembroke United Methodist Church will hold Community Holy Week Services every night 7 p.m. this week through Good Friday.

Easter services will begin with Community Sun Rise Service at 6:30 a.m. at the church. Sun Rise breakfast will be at 7:30, by reservation only (call the church to make reservations at 653-2220 by 5 p.m. on Thursday). Sunday School for all ages will begin at 9:45 a.m. with Easter Worship at 11 a.m.


Easter service

Come join the Calvary Experience for an uplifting Easter Resurrection Celebration on Sunday, April 8 at 9:45 a.m. with an Easter production by our Youth Ministry. On 11 a.m. in a Sunday worship service which will include a powerful praise and worship and an inspirational message by pastor, Stanford L. Anderson, I. The church is located off Hwy 17 South on Danielsiding Loop Road.


Easter weekend

Pastor Ricky Temple and Overcoming by Faith Ministries invites everyone to "Risen to Win" Easter weekend, April 6-8 at the Savannah Civic Center. Friday features the OBF Youth Easter Celebration beginning at 7 p.m. at the Johnny Mercer Theater. Calvary Baptist

Pastor Stanford L. Anderson I and the entire Calvary Missionary Baptist Church Family invite everyone to celebrate its 136th church anniversary.

The church will continue celebrating April 11–13 during nightly services which will begin at 7 p.m. each evening. The climax takes place Sunday, April 15 at 3 p.m. with Pastor Ricky Bready, Sr. and Tremont Temple Missionary Baptist Church, Savannah.

The church is located off Hwy. 17 South on Danielsiding Loop Road in Richmond Hill. All are invited to join the Calvary experience.



The Bryan County NAACP Interest Group presents "The Twelve Days of Black History" featuring local black heroes.

NAACP Georgia State President Edward DuBose will be keynote speaker. The event is Sunday, April 15 at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, 185 Poplar St., Pembroke. Dinner will be served beginning at 3 p.m. Admission is free. All are welcome. For more information, call Dave Williams at 653-3472.


Magnolia Manor

Magnolia Manor on the Coast is pleased to welcome Matthew Cohen as guest speaker in their Renaissance Lecture Series on April 12 at 5:30 p.m. Cohen will talk about how to make traditional southern food into a gourmet dining experience, using examples from his restaurant The New South Cafe.

Sailing boosters

Tickets for the Richmond Hill Sailing Booster Club’s oyster and chicken roast and raffle are now on sale at RE/MAX Accent, Ella’s, Lavender Hill SpaSalon and Outriggers Grill through April 20. The cost is $35 and proceeds will help purchase sailboats, spare parts and building materials for a floating dock. The event is Saturday, April 28 from 3-7 p.m. at Outrigger’s Grill at Kilkenny. Dog walks

Eileen Fenwick of Fenwick Farms Training and Nancy Celani Baker of Dogs ‘N’ All Pet Sitting, LLC have teamed up to offer free, supervised dog walks Saturdays at 10 a.m. at J.F. Gregory Park in Richmond Hill. Walks begin Saturday, April 14th and can help shy dogs be more social while helping excitable dogs learn to control their exuberance.

The route is 2K and the walks take about an hour. Please bring water for you and your dog, bug spray and pickup bags. No retractable leashes please.

St. Joseph’s/Candler will be performing mammograms to screen for breast cancer in its mobile screening unit on April 4 & 18 at St. Joseph’s/Candler Medical Group, Pembroke, 159 West Railroad St. SJ/C accepts most insurance plans include Blue Cross HMO. Financial assistance is available to women who qualify. Appointments are necessary and may be made by calling 819-6800.

Older workers

The Georgia Older Worker Network is searching for Coastal Georgia’s 2007 Outstanding Older Worker and is currently soliciting nominations from businesses and individuals. Contestants must be 60 years of age or older, currently employed and working at least 20 hours each week for pay. The Coastal winner will be honored along with 11 other Georgia regional winners at the Network’s 19th annual conference and luncheon in St. Simons on August 17.

From these regional winners, one will be selected to represent Georgia at the National Prime Time Awards in Washington, D.C. on Oct. 2-4, 2007.

Vidalia onions

The American Legion Post 164 is having a fundraiser by selling jumbo Vidalia Onions through May 1. You can purchase a 10 lb. bag of jumbo onions for $7.50 per bag and 25 lb. bags will be sold for $15 per bag. The onions are provided by Ray Farms of Glennville. To place orders see any member of the Post or call 653-4958 or 653-4948. All proceeds will be used for Legion projects and to aid veterans and their families.

Post 164 meets every second Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the Post home on Hwy. 280 west of Pembroke. The American Legion Ladies Auxillary meets at 7 p.m. on the same night in the Post home.
