The Pembroke Lions Club will observe "White Cane Day" on April 7 with a bucket brigade set up under the red light. The proceeds from the donations will go toward the Lighthouse for the Blind project. The Pembroke Lions Club meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Pembroke Library.

On April 5 at 7 p.m. the Richmond Hill Historical Society is pleased to present Tally Kirkland. Kirkland will be discussing the Life and Times of the Civil War Soldier. Prior to retiring from the National Park Service he was the director at Fort Pulaski. Kirkland is now spending time at our own Fort McAllister and is an expert on the Civil War Era. Pembroke will have its city-wide Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 7 at 10 a.m. at DuBose Square (located at the corner of Ledford and Gibson Street).

Activities will include face painting, a visit from the Easter bunny, crafts, prizes and goodie bags for the kids, and of course, the annual Easter egg hunt. Don’t forget to bring your Easter basket!

Pembroke United Methodist Church will hold Community Holy Week Services every night 7 p.m. this week through Good Friday.

Gregory Park in Richmond Hill. Walks begin Saturday, April 14th and can help shy dogs be more social while helping excitable dogs learn to control their exuberance.

The Georgia Older Worker Network is searching for Coastal Georgia’s 2007 Outstanding Older Worker and is currently soliciting nominations from businesses and individuals. Contestants must be 60 years of age or older, currently employed and working at least 20 hours each week for pay. The Coastal winner will be honored along with 11 other Georgia regional winners at the Network’s 19th annual conference and luncheon in St. Simons on August 17.

From these regional winners, one will be selected to represent Georgia at the National Prime Time Awards in Washington, D.C. on Oct. 2-4, 2007.

The American Legion Post 164 is having a fundraiser by selling jumbo Vidalia Onions through May 1. You can purchase a 10 lb. bag of jumbo onions for $7.50 per bag and 25 lb. bags will be sold for $15 per bag. The onions are provided by Ray Farms of Glennville.
