The Southeast Georgia Chapter of the American Red Cross is seeking volunteers for its disaster action teams. Volunteers are needed to provide emergency assistance to victims of disasters and preparedness education to the community.
Orientation is required. Volunteers are needed in Bryan, Effingham, Chatham and Liberty counties.

Candidate forum
The Richmond Hill/Bryan County Chamber of Commerce will host a political forum from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Richmond Hill City Center.
All four candidates running for Richmond Hill City Council, Jan Bass, John Fesperman, Jimmy Hires and Marilyn Hodges, have been invited to attend by Chamber Board Chairman Robbie King.
In addition, there will be an update on the special purpose local option sales tax that has been in effect in Bryan County since 1987 and is to be decided by voters in November.
The forum is free and the public is encouraged to attend to make an informed vote at the polls.

Time for Peace

Spirit of Peace Lutheran Church will hold contemplative services from 6:30-7 p.m. each Wednesday until Nov. 16 at the church at 15985 Hwy. 144, Richmond Hill.
The public is invited to these services, which will feature guided and silent prayer, times of meditation and reflection on the Scriptures.

Halloween party

The Richmond Hill Senior Center will host a Halloween party and costume contest from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 31 at the center at 185 Ball Park Road in Richmond Hill.
Members of both the Richmond Hill center and the Pembroke Senior Center will be in attendance, and the Bryan County Health Department will be on hand to give flu shots. The public is invited to attend.

Medicare workshop
U.S. Rep. Jack Kingston, R-Ga., will sponsor a Medicare Part D workshop from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 1 at Armstrong State University’s Armstrong Center.
Counselors will be available to speak with participants to discuss Medicare options. Those who are enrolled or wish to enroll in the program must sign up or make changes by Dec. 7.
Attendees should bring a complete list of all prescriptions and their Medicare card as well as complete and bring the Medicare Part D Enrollment Event Worksheet, which can be found at www.kingston.house.gov/PartD.

Grief support
Hospice Savannah bereavement counselor Betsy Kammerud will facilitate a free “Grief in the Holidays” support session at 6 p.m. Nov. 2 in the education room at Liberty Regional Hospital in Hinesville.

Book signing
The Hinesville Area Arts Council will host a greeting/book signing for Ginger Cucolo, wife of former 3rd ID Commander Maj. Gen. Tony Cucolo, from 5-7 p.m. Nov. 3 at 102 Commerce St. in Hinesville
She recently released her book, “Dog Tags: The History, Personal Stories, Cultural Impact and Future of Military Identification.”
