Bryan Neck Missionary Baptist Church will host a Veterans Appreciation Day celebration at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at the church in Richmond Hill.
The public is invited to join the “Hour of Power, Compassion in Action” service dedicated to veterans and their families. The event is free and a pre-Thanksgiving dinner will be served to honor the patriots. The dress is casual, and the creative use of red, white and blue is encouraged.

Poker run
American Legion Post 164 Pembroke and Legion Riders will sponsor a Poker Run on Saturday, Oct. 16. The run will form at the Post home in Pembroke and terminate at Hart’s Tavern in Lanier. First bike out at 9 a.m., last bike out at 10 a.m.; last bike in at 2 p.m. The route is 100 miles long. Licensed riders only.

Fall festival
Beulah Baptist Church will hold its annual Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 16 from 4-9 p.m. Included in the event will be games, prizes, auction, cakewalk, hamburgers, hotdogs, pancakes and sausage. Hope to see you there! Proceeds will benefit the Beulah Baptist Youth Group. The church is located off Hwy 67 south on Beulah Church Road.

Family reunion
The descendants of Jim B. Weathers and Nancy Alice Boyett Weathers will hold a family reunion on Saturday, Oct. 16, at Antioch Baptist Church, Daisy, Ga. (old Hwy. 250 South), from 11 a.m. until.
Bring a covered dish and come enjoy great food and fellowship.

Descendants of John Morgan Futch and Nancy Crosby Futch will hold the 63rd reunion on Oct. 17 at the Smith Family Reunion Center on Seed Tick Road off Hwy. 119 North near Pembroke. A basket lunch will be served at 1 p.m.

Relay meeting
Relay For Life of Richmond Hill will have a team meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, at the Richmond Hill City Center, and everyone is invited to attend.
Old Relay teams, as well as new teams, are encouraged to sign up. All teams that register before the Oct. 18 meeting will be entered into a drawing for a bag full of Relay goodies.  The winner will be announced at the meeting, and winners must be present to get the prize.
There will also be a pumpkin decorating contest, so bring a pumpkin decorated with a Relay or breast cancer awareness theme to win a prize. Tickets for the coming event fundraiser will also be available at the team meeting.

The Richmond Hill Asperger Support Group will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, at the Richmond Hill Public Library.

Ceremony changed
The Richmond Hill High School National Honor Society induction ceremony scheduled for Oct. 19 has been changed.
The ceremony will instead be held from 6:30-8 p.m. Nov. 9 in the RHHS cafeteria.

Story time
Pembroke Public Library will be having a story time at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 21, at the library. We will be reading Halloween stories and also coloring Halloween pictures. It will be geared toward toddler and pre-school ages.

Concert
The Savannah Philharmonic will perform Edward Elgar’s romantic oratorio “The Dream of Gerontius,” complete with full orchestra, chorus and internationally renowned soloists, at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist on Abercorn Street at East Harris Street in Savannah.
The Savannah Philharmonic will also welcome Phillip Scriven as guest organist for the concert. He will also perform an organ concert 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23 at Independent Presbyterian Church.

Public Safety Day
The Bryan County Fire Department, in conjunction with the Bryan County Firefighters Association, will hold the annual Public Safety Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, in the parking lot of Publix on Hwy. 144 south of Richmond Hill.
The public is invited to come out and enjoy a great day of learning that will include fire extinguisher demonstrations, child safety seat checks, Carolyn the pink fire truck and more. Blood Alliance will also be on site for blood donations, and Happy the Clown, inflatables and face painting will be available for children.
There will also be a silent auction on items from local businesses from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All proceeds got to the Terry Nielsen fund.

Fall festival
First Baptist Church of Blitchton will have its fall festival from 4-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at 5204 Highway 80, Blitchton.
Come out for a chili cook-off, hot dogs, hayride, games, prizes, candy, cakewalk and lots of other fun stuff.

Lantern tour
Fort McAllister State Historic Park will hold its annual Candle Lantern Tour from 7-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at the park south of Richmond Hill.
Come tour the fort by candlelight and see Civil War soldiers going through their nightly duties. Be sure to stay with your tour guide or you may be captured as a spy. No flashlights please.
Admission is $5 for adults and $3.50 for children.

Fundraiser

Calling all runners and walkers. Come support the Mission Project 3 (MP3) of First Baptist Church in their fundraising event for the Romanian Mission Trip at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 23 in J.F. Gregory Park.

Casting call
The department of Film and Television at the Savannah College of Art and Design announces an open casting call for more than 40 short films to be produced in early 2011.
The casting call is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at Adler Hall, 532 Indian St. in Savannah.
All ages and races are encouraged to attend. No stage or film experience is necessary. Please bring head shot and resume if applicable. Speaking and non-speaking roles are available for a diverse range of actors.

Halloween may fall on a Sunday this year, but city officials are encouraging kids to go door to door on Saturday, Oct. 30, instead.
In Richmond Hill, Halloween will be celebrated from 6-9 p.m. Oct. 30 within the city limits.
In Pembroke, Halloween will be celebrated from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 30 within the city limits. There will be other events sponsored by the North Bryan Chamber of Commerce, including a pumpkin carving contest, and also a Halloween party at the teen center.
