Pembroke Memorial Day
The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 164 (Pembroke) and the Boys Scout Troop #357 will present their fourth annual Memorial Day Program on May 29. The Pembroke will start at 10 a.m. New flags will be dedicated to honor Bryan County’s fallen Veterans. The program will be held at the flags, downtown Pembroke.
Also, Poppy cans are still out in some of the Pembroke businesses. Donations are encouraged and appreciated to help Veterans.

RH Memorial Day
The city of Richmond Hill will host a Memorial Day observance at 11 a.m. Friday, May 28, in J.F. Gregory Park next to the veterans monument. Representatives from local veterans organizations will speak at the ceremony. Special guest speaker will be Brig. Gen. Jeffrey Phillips, deputy commanding general - rear and senior commander, 3rd Infantry Division. All are welcome to attend to honor those veterans who died while serving their community and country.

Sumer Food
America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia will again sponsor its Summer Food Service Program in Bryan County beginning June 1. The site location will be 362 Wade Carter Road, Ellabell, from 4:00-5:30 p.m. Meals will be provided, free-of-charge, to children enrolled in the summer program without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability. America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia has been a leader in initiatives to reduce childhood hunger since it established Kids Café in 1989. Summer feeding is essential to ensuring proper nutrition for children at-risk for hunger since they do not have access to free or reduced-price school lunches when school is out of session.

Scholarship available
The Coastal GA Area Community Action Authority, Inc. joins with the Georgia Community Action Association in announcing the availability of one $1,000 scholarship to be awarded on a Statewide basis to Community Action Employees who have been accepted at such an educational institution.
The individual must be income eligible, in accordance with Community Services Block Grant guidelines, and be successfully judged as a winner in an essay writing competition. The essay is to be entitled, “What Has the Community Action Movement Meant to My Community,” and is to be no more than three (3) typewritten pages, double spaced. Deadline for submission is 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 15, 2010.
The Georgia Community Action Association is a professional association composed of twenty member agencies from across the State, one of which is the Coastal GA Area C.A.A., Inc.

Bible school
First Baptist Church of Richmond Hill presents Vacation Bible School, “Saddle Ridge Ranch” Sunday, June 6 through Thursday, June 10 from 6-9 p.m. nightly. Free dinner available from 5:15-5:45 p.m. Sunday through Thursday.

Bible school

Richmond Hill United Methodist Church will set sail for the high seas during the its annual vacation Bible school set for 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 12-16 at RHUMC, 9050 Ford Ave. Richmond Hill United Methodist Church's vacation Bible school is free and open to any entering pre-school child through entering fifth-graders.
Kids will feel the sea spray on their face as sails snap overhead. They’ll experience the deep rolling waters of God’s love. It’s easily the best time they will have all summer. Don’t miss the ship -- register now to be a part of this High Seas Expedition VBS!

Movie Night
Pembroke Christian Church will host a free outdoor motivational football themed movie on Saturday, May 29. The movie will start at approximately 9 p.m. (at dark). Come early and enjoy fellowship and music. There is no admission fee. Please bring chairs and/or blankets. The church is located downtown Pembroke next to the First Bank of Coastal Georgia. Coke and popcorn will be available.

Thrift store

St. Elizabeth’s Attic--Thrift and Gift Store is now open and has jewelry, appliances, clothes, furniture, books, children’s toys and games.
It is open Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. until noon. All proceeds are donated to local charities. The store is located at 16491 Hwy. 144 in Richmond Hill, phone 727-2664.

Gospel singing
Saved by Grace will sing and celebrate Jesus Christ at Corinth Baptist Church, 19536 Hwy. 144, Richmond Hill, on Sunday May 30, 2010, at 6:30 p.m.  Finger foods will be served afterwards in the fellowship hall.

Junior Rangers

Fort McAllister State Historic Park will offer Junior Ranger Summer Camp June 14-19 and June 28 -- July 2 for children ages 8 to 12. The camp will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily. The cost of the camp is $70 per child.
Activities will include nature walks, arts and crafts, games, wildlife lessons, canoeing, nature scavenger hunts and much more. Call 727–2339 for registration and information. The deadline to register for the week of June 14 is June 9, and June 28 for the week of June 23. The participation is limited to 20 campers for each week.

BCHS reunion

Fishing derby
The Richmond Hill Exchange Club will hold its 20th annual Kid’s Fishing Derby from 8:30 a.m. to noon June 5 at the Richmond Hill Fish Hatchery. Registration begins at noon. The derby is limited to children ages 15 and under, with awards for children 12 and under. All children will be eligible for door prizes.
Participants should bring fishing poles and bait and be ready to fish. A limited amount of bait will be provided by The Exchange Club, and a limited number of fishing poles will be provided by the state Department of Natural Resources. Ponds will be stocked with catfish. Entry forms, flyers, press releases, and other information are available at www.rhxc.org/fishing.htm.

Dolphin Project
Love dolphins? Join our research volunteers. The Dolphin Project offers a dolphin program and training workshop at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah - Solmes Hall, at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 5. This event lasts about two hours. The group needs skippers with boats, photographers with 300mm lenses on their cameras and team leaders to record the data. TDP is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization dedicated to the protection of wild estuarine Bottlenose dolphins for over 20 years. 4-H
The Bryan County 4-H Club reaches nearly 1,000 young people in Bryan County each month with learning activities such as club meetings, camps, public speaking events, judging and competition teams, community service and citizenship opportunities.  All of these activities make 4-H the largest youth program in the country. Your help is needed to assist with the funding of these activities. All money used to support educational programs through 4-H must be raised through fund-raisers or donations from the generous people of Bryan County. For more information go http://bryan4-h.org/.
