Black history program Sunday at Mill Creek Baptist Church

Mill Creek Baptist Church will be having their Black History Program on Feb. 25 at 3 p.m. The speaker will be Pembroke's Sis. Bernadette Smokes. The youth department will be rendering a play. The public is invited.

 

Arts on the Coast

Arts on the Coast Singers are looking for new members. The group is directed by Donna Dasher and you do not have to read music to be a part of this group.

The group practices on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at Richmond Hill United Methodist Church at 7 p.m. and on the second and fourth Mondays at Magnolia Manner at 7 p.m. Call Dasher at 727-4490 for more information.

Vidalia onions

The American Legion Post 164 is having a fundraiser to sell Jumbo Vidalia onions through May 1. You can purchase a 10 lb. bag of jumbo onions for $7.50 per bag; 25 lb. bags will be sold for $15 per bag. The onions are provided by Ray Farms of Glennville.

To place orders see any member of the Post or call 653-4958 or 653-4948. All proceeds will be used for Legion projects and to aid veterans and their families.

 

American Legion

The American Legion, Post 164, Pembroke has its regularly stated meeting at 7:30 p.m. the second Thursday each month at the Post home on Highway 280 west in Pembroke.

All veterans and current active duty members are encouraged to attend. The American Legion Ladies Auxiliary meets at 7 p.m. the same night at the Post home.

 

Forestry pageant

The 2007 Bryan County Forestry pageant will be March 10 at 1 p.m. at Langston Chapel Elementary School.

RH Historical Society

On March 1 at 7 p.m. the Richmond Hill Historical Society will present Tally Kirkland. Mr. Kirkland will be discussing the Life and Times of the Civil War Soldier.

Prior to retiring from the National Park Service he was the director at Fort Pulaski. Mr. Kirkland is now spending time at Fort McAllister and is an expert on the Civil War Era. All are invited to learn about the rich history that abounds in the area.

NB cancer support

North Bryan Cancer Support Group meets the first and third Mondays of each month at 7 p.m. at the Pembroke City Hall in the community center.

Antiques show

The Skidaway Island Antiques Show and sale is March 2-4 and will include 17 nationally known dealers, Appraisals, gourmet luncheons each day, $8 admission for all three days.

All net proceeds go to charities benefiting area children.

The event will be at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 3 West Ridge Road, Savannah from 10-a.m.-5 p.m. on March 2-3 and 11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on March 4.

Flu vaccinations

The flu season could last in our region until May 2007. SouthCoast Medical Group is now offering walk-in flu shots at a discounted price of $14.00. No appointment is necessary.

People who should not be vaccinated include:

- People who have a severe allergy to chicken eggs.

- People who have had a severe reaction to an influenza vaccination in the past.

- People who developed Guillain-Barré syndrome(GBS) within 6 weeks of getting an influenza vaccine previously.

- Children less than 6 months of age (influenza vaccine is not approved for use in this age group).

- People who have a moderate or severe illness with a fever should wait to get vaccinated until their symptoms lessen.

Mammograms

St. Joseph’s/Candler will be performing mammograms to screen for breast cancer in its mobile screening unit on March 7 and 21 at St. Joseph’s/Candler Group, Pembroke, 159 West Railroad St. and on March 8 at the Bryan County Health Department in Richmond Hill. SJ/C accepts most insurance plans including Blue Cross HMO.

Financial assistance is available to women who qualify. Appointments are necessary and may be made by calling 819-6800.
