More than 125 walkers have registered to participate in the sixth annual Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS) Walk set for Oct. 9-10 along the C&O Canal on the beautiful Potomac River near Harper’s Ferry, W.Va.
Lisa Larson of Richmond Hill has committed to walking 25 miles in two days in memory of Sgt. Michael W. Larson with the Bryan County Sheriff’s Department, End of Watch Dec. 11, 2006.
Larson has also committed to raising a total of $1,000 for COPS an organization dedicated to the surviving family members and affected co-workers of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.
“On Dec. 11, 2006, Bryan County Sheriff Clyde Smith, Deputy Dee Ann Kromer and Mr. Mike Maxwell showed up at my home to inform me that my husband, Sgt. Michael W. Larson, was in an auto accident and he did not make it,” Larson said. “At that moment, I wondered how I was going to tell our children, Megan, Shawn and Lil Megan, that their father was no longer with us.
“Many events have taken place since that day. Thanks to an organization called COPS, we have been able to work on rebuilding our shattered lives. Now I am trying to do my part in giving other families the same opportunities that my family has had by doing this 25-mile walk in honor of Michael to raise money for COPS.”
