Representing Richmond Hill Middle School, eighth-grader Makayla Champion placed 5th in the Junior Angler Division (solo) at Georgia BASS Nation on Saturday, March 8th. The tournament was hosted at Lake Seminole, Georgia.

Her total weight was 12.82 lbs (5 fish), with her big fish weighing in at 4.45lbs.

Fishing certainly runs in the family. Makayla’s brother Branton fished for Richmond Hill High School for three years, becoming the first Wildcat to ever receive a fishing scholarship. Branton is now fishing at Emmanuel University on said scholarship.

Makayla’s father, Ron, also fishes at the pro level and has travelled the world and competed in various fishing tournaments, representing the United States.
