RHHS and BCHS qualify for state track and field meet

Richmond Hill boys will have five individuals and two relay teams competing in the GHSA Class 6A state track meet this weekend at Carrollton while the girls qualified eight individuals and two relay teams in last Saturday’s sectional meet at Valdosta.

Bryan County had five boys and a relay team qualify in the Class A sectional at Montgomery County along with Ashanti Brown on the girls side. The top eight finishers qualify for the state meet which, for Class A, will be held at Albany.

Sophomore Ethan Trombly, showing he is fully recovered from the knee surgery which sidelined him for last fall’s football season, led the Redskins contingent as he placed third in the 1600-meter run and fifth in the 800.

Sophomores Memphis Rich and Noah Sybert both qualified in the 1600 and 3200-meters races for the Wildcats. Rich was second in the 3200 and fourth in the 1600 while Sybert was fifth and seventh, respectively, in the two events. Dylan Overbey qualified in the 3200 as he finished eighth.

Jasai Taylor, who has signed to run at Troy University, was third in the 300-meter hurdles and Jaden Day was seventh in the pole vault at 11-06.

Taylor was also a member of the 4X200 meter relay team which finished seventh. Day, Billy Cunningham and Anfernee Jackson rounded out the group. The 4x800 team of Sybert, Rich, Overbey and Luis Gotay Ramos finished fifth.

Avery Fisher established herself as a favorite in the shot put when she finished first with a heave of 39-01.78. The softball and flag football standout took third in the discus at 113-08.00. Jade Brown was second in the shot.

Julia Wilson and Akira Burt also qualified in two individual events. Wilson was third at 3200 meters and sixth in the 1600. Burt was third in the 400-meter dash and eighth in the 200.

Other qualifiers were Jayla Lawrence who was sixth in the 100 meters, Kyle Kitchen-Mayes was sixth in the 3200 and Autumn Smiley took seven the pole vault.

The 4x200 relay team of Jasmine Wood, Lawrence, Kayla Heileman and Briauna McDaniel was seventh while the 4x400 team of Lawrence, Burt, Brown and Heileman was fourth.

For the Redskins freshman basketball standout Brown earned her trip to the state meet with a fifth in the 200 meter dash while Jacari Carney was eighth in the 100, Javin Collins was sixth in the 400, Jaylen Williams was sixth in the 300 hurdles and the relay team of Damar Ervin, Kegan Westcott, Williams and Collins were fourth in the 4x400 relay.
