After the break for Easter on April 20th, the NFL Flag Football League in Richmond Hill got their season going again for week two of the spring league season. The scores for the week were a bit more lopsided than usual, but athletes from all levels enjoyed being back on the field after their week of rest.
The Pre-K, Kindergarten and First Grade division, known as the Lombardi League, kicked the day off with the Ravens taking on the Buccaneers, with the Ravens cruising to a 34-18 win. The Cardinals would win in convincing fashion over the Falcons with a 37-12 score. The Commanders and the Vikings kept things closer in their game, as the Commanders came out on top, 19-12.
In the Second and Third Grade division, known as the Shula League, the games were much closer, although the Chargers more than doubled the Jets’ points, winning 25-12. The Titans escaped with a 13-12 win over the Bills and the Bengals came out with a 21-13 win over the Colts.
In the Fourth and Fifth Grade division, known as the Lower Madden League, the Panthers blanked 49ers as they cruised to a 38-0 win. The Steelers doubled the Texans’ points with a 24-12 win.
The Dolphins and Broncos’ game was by far the best game of the day. The Broncos led the game late in the game and only needed a first down to secure the clock and the win. While failing to get the first down, the Dolphins would capitalize tie the game at 19-19 with very little time on the clock. Just as it seemed that the game would go into overtime, the Dolphins made a huge play and scored a touchdown, just as time expired, walking off of the field with a 25-19 victory.
In the Sixth, Seventh and Eighth Grade division, known as the Upper Madden League, there were several blowouts that took place, including several games that had to implement a ‘Mercy Rule’ due to the score. The Seahawks outlasted the Cowboys 36-0. The Raiders blew out the Lions with a 32-0 score. The Rams dominated the Giants by a 44-6 final score and the Bears had to forfeit their game, resulting in a 6-0 win for the Patriots.
In the Lombardi league, the Commanders sit in first place at 2-0. The Cardinals, Vikings, Falcons and Ravens each sit at 1-1 on the year and the Buccaneers are in sixth place with an 0-2 record after week two.
In the Shula league, the Bengals and the Titans sit at the top with a 2-0 record. The Chargers are the lone 1-1 team on the year and the Bills and Colts sit at 0-1. The Jets are in sixth place at 0-2.
In the Lower Madden league, the Panthers and Dolphins both sit at 2-0. They are followed by the Broncos and the Steelers, who are both 1-1. The Texans and the 49ers round at the rankings, with each team at 0-2.
