In middle school, Chloe Miller decided it was time to play a sport. She began with cross country in the fall and later track, and Miller has never looked back.
“I started running in middle school because I did no sports at the time and wanted to do something active,” said Miller. “So I joined cross country and later track, and it has been a great experience.”
A few years later, the Richmond Hill sophomore is on track to succeed even further in the Wildcats’ program. Miller has excelled in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 this season, and she also is part of the team’s 4x400 relay team.
So far, Miller’s best times have been 2:15.16 for the 800, 11:07.82 for the 1,600, and 11:07.82 for the 3,200.
Head track coach Levi Sybert has appreciated watching her development over the years.
“She has gotten better every single year through applying more pressure and more focus,” said Sybert. “She’s great at identifying and limiting distractions while figuring out how to best push herself mentally.”
Since last year, Miller has gained and created a better comfort zone for herself. She ran the 800 and 1,600, posting a best time of 2:15.66 in the 800, 5:17.48 in the 1600 last season.
“I feel much more focused and confident this year,” said Miller. “That has definitely helped me in my 1,600, where I have improved by 12 seconds from last year. I am also a lot more competitive in workouts and during races. I feel like I have also been training harder this year in general.”
Miller credits the constant support of her father, Bivins, who began running when she did. She believes she is the first person in her family to participate in track.
“I think the person that has influenced me the most in my career is my dad,” said Miller. “He always trains with me and he encourages me to work hard and get better.
“I don’t think I would be where I am today without him. When I started running I don’t think I was very motivated but now I am because of hard work and love for the sport.”
Miller noted sectionals last season where she saw it not only as a milestone but also as a springboard for her future.
“I don’t really have a huge story that sticks out ,but I would say my favorite meet was sectionals in 2025 for track when I got my PR (personal record) at that time in the 800,” said Miller. “It was a huge achievement for me.”
With the regular season winding down, Miller already is looking ahead to the postseason, where she is confident she can hit another stride.
“I look forward to regions, sections, and states because there is great competition and I hope to improve a lot,” said Miller. That is when I started peaking last year.”
Sybert is in unison with his runner. He sees Miller on the verge of new records in the 800, 1,600, and 3,200.
“She is knocking on the door for three distance school records set by two division one athletes that have been in the program,” said Sybert.”So she’s moving in the right direction for sure.”
