Wildcats throw scare into No. 1 team before falling

Richmond Hill High School threw a scare in to the top-ranked and undefeated Wayne County Yellow Jackets when Wildcat right fielder Nathan Ward staked his team to an early lead with a three-run home run in the first inning.
Wayne County chipped away at three Richmond Hill pitchers however, scoring runs in all but two innings to come away with an 8-4 Region 2A-AAAA win.
Billy Kilmer got the start and loss for Richmond Hill before giving way to Ryan Esenwein in the fourth inning when Wayne County's Tyler Palmer smacked a three-run double to give the Yellow Jackets their first lead of the game.
Wayne County's Brandon Scarborough pitched six complete innings for the win.
Ward had a sacrifice fly and RBI in the seventh inning to give him all four of Richmond Hill's RBI's. Hunter Hadley went 2-for-4 at the plate and Kevin Matthews went 2-for-3 with a double. Mathews pitched 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.
Richmond Hill scattered nine hits but left nine men on base and made two outs on the base paths during the game. They also committed several errors that led to Wayne County runs.
Richmond Hill fell to 7-6, 1-5 while the Yellow Jackets improved to 14-0.
