Richmond Hill alum Canon Rooker has signed as an undrafted free agent with the New York Jets.

Rooker, out of Middle Tennessee State University, hit 14 out of 17 field goal attempts this past season and became the first Blue Raider kicker to hit two or more field goals from 50 yards or longer in the same season.

He was seven of seven on kicks from 45 yards and out and was a semi-finalist for the Lou Groza Award, given annually to the nation’s top kicker. He also had a 63.3-yard average on kickoffs and recorded 37 touchbacks on 67 kicks.

As a Wildcat, Rooker was the AAAAA Special Teams Player of the Year as a senior in 2012 and was ranked as the No. 27 kicker in the nation by ESPN.

The Jets will hold a rookie mini-camp this week.
