Lady Wildcats win softball region title
RHHS Wildcats

The Richmond Hill Lady Wildcats captured the Region 3-AAAAA softball championship with a 1-0 win over Ware County this evening in Douglas.

Maddie Gorsuch homered in the top of the seventh inning for the game's only run and pitcher Sammi Mault went the distance for the win.

Next up for RHHS is the state tournament. The Lady Wildcats will host Northside-Warner Robins in a best-of-3 series, starting with a doubleheader Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Richmond Hill (23-6) clinched a state berth Oct. 1 and will enter that tournament on a 10-game winning streak.

The Lady Wildcats got to the region title game with a 1-0 win over tournament host Coffee on Tuesday. Mault pitched a three-hit shutout and Hannah Fitzgerald drove in the game’s only run in the third inning to lead Richmond Hill to the win.
