BCHS drops playoff opener

A key stretch in the second quarter doomed Bryan County on Friday, as the Redskins fell to Screven County 35-0 in the first round of the Class AA football playoffs in Sylvania.

The Gamecocks scored all of their points in the first half, but only had a 7-0 lead about halfway through the second quarter, BCHS head coach Allen Cartwright said. However, on the ensuing kickoff after Screven County went up 13-0, the Redskins bobbled the ball and got buried deep in their own territory. Shortly after, the Gamecocks got good field position and scored again, which started their run to their 35-0 halftime lead.

“Seemed like it kind of snowballed on us,” Cartwright said.

The Redskins ended the season with a 5-6 record. Screven County moved to 10-1 with the win.
