Lady Wildcats open basketball season with win over Glynn Academy

In back-to-back seasons, the Lady Wildcats opened their basketball season on the road, leaving Brunswick with a 36-33 win over Glynn Academy, their non-region foe. 


The last time the two teams met was back in February, just before the end of the 2024-2025 season came to a close. That game was also at Glynn Academy, however that game went in favor of the Lady Terrors, with a final score of 44-36 at their place. 


The Lady ‘Cats were able to avenge that loss, and open their season with a win--which is never easy when you are the away opponent. 


“It was definitely tough going into Glynn and securing the win on the road,” senior leader Emari Brown said. “We’re in a period of transition, with learning the new players and adjusting our playing style from previous years. 


“Preparation through film study definitely played a role, and having faced Glynn before, I knew they’d bring a scrappy intensity.”


The senior nearly had a double double for herself in the game, as she finished with nearly half of her team’s entire point total, with 17 points in the game. She also added nine rebounds, which narrowly missed the double double by one extra point. Brown added to assists on the offensive side of the ball as well. She also showed off her defensive skills, as she has throughout her career, by getting five steals and two blocked shots in the game. 


“On a personal note, I was so focused on the mistakes I was making during the game that I didn’t even realize I was putting up good stats, Brown said.”


The Lady ‘Cats will once again get on the road over the weekend, as they will travel to Statesboro to take on the Lady Blue Devils in another non-region matchup over the Thanksgiving Break. The tip off for that game will be at 4pm at Statesboro High School. 


“As we turn our attention to Statesboro, the most important thing is to maintain our unity and prevent them from dominating inside the paint,” Brown said. “We’ll achieve this by ensuring that every player fulfills their role effectively and by maintaining control over the tempo and flow of the game.”
