Bryan County will soon begin a $1,143,780 water infrastructure project in the Groover Hill area to strengthen fire suppression capabilities and improve community safety, supported by $1 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs and $143,780 in matching and leveraged funds.
The project will install approximately 8,000 linear feet of 8-inch water main, along with the valves, fittings, and fire hydrants necessary to improve fire protection throughout the Groover Hill community. The expanded infrastructure will provide increased water availability for fire suppression and give responding firefighters greater access to reliable water sources during emergencies.
The proposed water line will connect to the existing public water system near the western side of the HMGMA property. From there, it will extend generally west along the northern side of Jernigan Road before continuing along the southern side of Groover Hill Road and terminating near U.S. Highway 280.
The project is expected to benefit approximately 60 residents, including many residents who qualify as low- to moderate-income.
In addition to strengthening fire protection, the new infrastructure will expand public water availability within the Groover Hill community and provide additional water service options for properties along the project area.
