Editor’s note: After winning their first 2-AA crown, the Bryan County High School Lady Redskins went on to the girls’ basketball Class AA Elite Eight this year.

Here’s coach Mario Mincey’s take on the season. Enjoy.

"This 2017 team had an historic run to the Elite 8. We had a goal to win a region championship and make a deep run in the state playoffs.

"Our kids really worked hard last summer, which was the start of this journey. This senior group of Yasmine Crawford, Alyssa Edwards, Robin Tillman, Julianne Brown and Alayna Williams did a great job of leading our team.

"A few of them watched us win a region title in 2011 against Calvary Day. They finish their careers with 70 wins, a region title and two state playoff appearances. Brown leaves BCHS with a school record of 1,671 points, while Crawford and Williams finished with over 1,000 rebounds in their career.

"I am very thankful for my coaching staff Cindy Bennett, Cassandra Donaldson and Allen Wallace for all they do. Our parents did a wonderful job of supporting us and I really do appreciate it. It was also very nice to see our school and community get behind this group as well.

"We look forward to the challenge of trying to get back to the state playoffs next season. We have a solid group of players returning, but summer tournaments and workouts will be very key. In order to compete, we must continue to work in the off season."
