The Richmond Hill Area Tennis Association’s five junior teams competed in the Georgia United States Tennis Association Junior State Championships tournament July 24-26 in Macon.

The Georgia USTA junior tournament is the largest event of its kind in the United States, with more than 1,000 players from ages 8-18 participating.

The top team from each community tennis-association league or private tennis-club league is eligible to compete at state. Two 12U teams, a 14U team and two 18U teams from Richmond Hill represented the Savannah Area Tennis Association for the fifth year in a row by winning the SATA fall and spring team-tennis season.

In Macon, Richmond Hill teams competed at the 2.5-4.0 level against Athens, Northeast Georgia, Middle Georgia and Atlanta teams.

“All players enjoyed an intense weekend of high-level competition,” said Linda Sun, the junior tennis-program coordinator at RHATA. “These matches were played out hard until the last point, which brought both victory and defeat.”
