Bryan County softball coach Jessica Schroeder-Cooper is in need of players as she starts her third season with the Redskins this fall and her search starts next Monday with tryouts scheduled over a two-day stretch.

The Redskins were a Sweet 16 team last year with only 11 players on the roster, fewer than that for some games due to injury, but Cooper is going to have to replace seniors Liz Harvey, Camryn Parker, McKinley Walker, Abigail Lee and Eris Deal which means there are going to be ample opportunities for young players to get playing time.

Cooper will conduct tryouts on May 18-19 at the middle school softball field, she said. Sessions will run from 3:15 p.m. to 5 p.m. A current physical is strictly required for participants who must also bring a glove, cleats, softball pants and helmet to the tryouts.

Following Tuesday’s session, Cooper will hold a parent meeting to discuss expectations, fund raising and schedules.

Harvey, Parker and Deal in particular leave big shoes to fill as all have signed to play college softball. Harvey and Parker will be taking their talents to Georgia Southern East and Deal is going to South Carolina-Salkehatchie.
