Bryan County splits region doubleheader
BCHS Redskins

The Region 2-AA softball tournament semifinals are taking longer to complete than the Bryan County Lady Redskins would have preferred.

Whatever the outcome, though, the Lady Redskins know they will play in the Class AA state playoffs.

Bryan County split a doubleheader Tuesday with visiting Bacon County in their best-of-3 semifinal series, losing the opener 2-1 in eight innings and bouncing back with an 8-3 win in game 2. The twin bill was pushed back a day by Monday’s inclement weather.

Bryan (22-8) and Bacon (18-8) played their decisive third game Wednesday evening. The result was not available at press time.

The winner will play today at regular-season region champion Vidalia (26-3) for the Region 2-AA championship and a No. 1 seed in the state tournament. Vidalia swept Jeff Davis 6-1 and 15-4 in a semifinal doubleheader on Monday.

The loser of the Bryan-Bacon series will play Jeff Davis (18-14) today to determine the region’s third and fourth seeds for the Class AA tournament.

The Lady Redskins locked up a state tournament berth by finishing second in Region 2-AA in the regular season, giving them a bye to the region tournament semifinals.
