Bryan County bounces back in big way
Redskins dominant in homecoming night win
bc

It was bounce-back week for Bryan County and boy did the Redskins bounce back.

Tanner Ennis scored three touchdowns and younger brother Cooper kicked six extra points as the Redskins, coming off their first loss of the season, rebounded in a big way with a 42-0 win over winless Montgomery County Friday night at Redskins Stadium to the delight of a standing room only Homecoming crowd.

Ennis caught two touchdown passes from Sean Kelly Hill and had a 48-yard scoring run as Bryan County posted its school record third shutout of the season. Four other Redskins teams had blanked opponents twice in a season including last year’s squad.

Bryan County (5-1), playing only its second home game of the season, wasted no time taking charge as it scored on its first play of the game.

After the defense forced a three-and-out off the opening kickoff Hill found a wide-open Ennis for a 38-yard strike with only 70 seconds having run off the clock.

It was quickly 14-0 as three plays later when Erin Greene, one of 21 seniors introduced before the game, picked off an Eagles pass and then scored on a 6-yard run. It was the first of two touchdowns for Greene who had a 41-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

Austin Clemons made it 21-0 with 3:26 left in the first quarter when he scored his 11th touchdown of the season on a 35-yard run to cap a five-play 69-yard drive on which he carried the ball four times for 65 yards.

Clemons, the Class A-DI rushing leader and fourth-leading rusher in the state in all classes going into the game, finished the night with 135 yards upping his season total to 980 going into Friday night’s Region 3A-DI opener at Metter. Greene added 63 yards and Ennis had 48 on his lone carry as Bryan County ran for 308 yards.

Hill finished the night completing four-of-seven passes for 86 yards and the two touchdown passes to Ennis.

After the early blitz the Redskins offense went into a lull until Hill and Ennis teamed up on a 12-yard score with 11 seconds left in the half.

Bryan County took the second half kickoff and went 71 yards on five plays. Clemons picked up 38 yards on four carries before Greene started left, cut back to his right and went the distance unscathed as the offensive line had sealed off that side of the field.

On their next possession the Redskins went 89 yards following a Clemons interception. With Clemons as his lead blocker Ennis swept right end and was gone leaving a trail of Eagles in his wake. His score came with 1:01 left in the third quarter and assured a running clock in the fourth.
