Boys' basketball: Balanced squad key to Wildcats' season hopes

Richmond Hill head boys’ basketball coach Bill Henderson is optimistic about his team for the upcoming season.

The Wildcats had an overall 14-15 record last season, and they advanced to the opening round of the state playoffs, being eliminated by Buford, 53-42. They did advance to the Class 7A Region 1 consolation game against Tift County, and they were nipped 51-49.

Henderson likes his returning core of leading scorers, Alonzo Miller (11.4) and Marki Boone (9.1). They did lose leading scorers Josh Mock (12.7) and Drew Nudo (12.2), however.

But along with Miller and Boone, Henderson will look to Brett Mock, Reggie Monk, and T.J. Reese as steady contributors.

“We have a good group of players returning who provide a solid foundation for our team,” said Henderson. “We’ll look to Boone, Miller, Mock, Monk, and Reese as a core group.”

Along with his returning group, Henderson is enthusiastic about an incoming group.

“We’ve added some quality newcomers that we’re excited about,” said Henderson. “Aidan Broome, Ayden Dunn, Patrick Huggins, James Jackson, and Ernest Tomlin will work their way into the rotation. We also anticipate adding a few key pieces once football season wraps up.”

The Wildcats will scrimmage Liberty County Nov. 11 before hosting Groves in their season opener Nov. 14.

Henderson is anxious for the season ahead.

“The guys have been working hard in practice and are continuing to build chemistry and consistency,” said Henderson. “We’re excited about this group and look forward to seeing them compete.”
