Congratulations to Rhonda and Jerry Gurganus, whose beautiful yard in the Piercefield subdivision in Richmond Hill has been selected as the Richmond Hill Garden Club’s Yard of the Month for November 2026.
Rhonda and Jerry have lived in their home for 16 years and have devoted countless hours to creating a yard that is both peaceful and inviting—a lovely place for family and friends to gather, while also welcoming birds, bees, and other garden visitors.
A lush carpet of St. Augustine grass provides the perfect backdrop for the garden’s colorful azaleas, camellias, and favorite Limelight hydrangeas, which put on a spectacular display in the Spring. Blue, white, and pink hydrangeas add even more beauty, while lavender, dahlias, zinnias, and chrysanthemums bring color throughout the yard. Rhonda and Jerry take pride in regularly trimming their plants and hedges, including the large, handsome boxwoods. A circular rose garden and charming garden statues add special touches to the backyard.
Rhonda’s love of gardening was inspired by her father, who passed away five years ago. She continues his gardening legacy by propagating plants and bushes from cuttings, keeping a little piece of his garden growing on her own.
Their garden is also a special place for their family, including their two sons and their 21-year-old daughter, Madelyn, who receives full-time care from Rhonda. Madelyn loves being outdoors, and her bedroom is decorated with a garden theme—a reflection of the beauty and joy that nature brings to their lives.
Rhonda and Jerry’s dedication, thoughtful care, and love of gardening have created a welcoming outdoor retreat that deserves to be celebrated.
