When I was first married, I had 29 persons which I called uncle or aunt. As time went on, they began to pass from this life.

I remember sitting in one of my uncle and aunt’s house when my uncle said to me, “Steve, you need to know that your generation is now the old generation because we all are about gone. (He and his wife were the last 2 uncle and aunts who were living at that time.)

Now they are gone and me and my first cousins who are left are truly the oldest generation.

With this place in life comes awesome responsibilities.

First, we are pass down faith. The Lord reminded His people in Deuteronomy 11:19 about their responsibility to teach their children the ways of the Lord. It says it this way, “”teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”

Second, we are to pass down the history of God’s faithfulness and mighty power and deeds on our behalf.

Psalms 78:4 speaks of this: “We will not hide them from their descendants; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power, and the wonders he has done.”

The ultimate goal is that each generation learns to place their hope in God.
