Fort McAllister State Historic Park is hosting a winter muster and reenactment of the final battle fought in Georgia during the Civil War, marking the end of Sherman’s March to the Sea in December 1864, 162 years ago. This living history program will allow visitors to experience what it was like in the events leading up to the final assault and includes reenactments, cannon and musket firings, military drills, an informative video, and fort and museum tours (included with admission). 

On Friday, December 11 from 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., visitors can tour the Union camps, view Confederates getting ready for the impending attack, and explore the fort and museum. On Saturday, December 12, visitors can explore soldiers’ encampments and glimpse camp life leading up to the fight from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Then, at 4:40 p.m. on Saturday, visitors can witness the reenactment of the final assault, which marked the end of Sherman’s March to the Sea.

Guests must be in place by 4 p.m. to experience the final assault.
